In “Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials,” a group of young survivors, including Thomas, who escaped a deadly maze in the first movie, find themselves in a facility run by Mr. Janson. They are told that they are being protected from a virus called the Flare and the infected “Cranks.”

Suspicious of their situation, Thomas investigates and discovers that the organization WCKD is behind it all. With the help of other survivors, they escape into a desolate outside world known as the Scorch.
