In “Money Monster,” flamboyant television financial expert Lee Gates is live on air when IBIS Clear Capital’s stock suddenly plummets, costing investors $800 million. Lee had planned to interview IBIS CEO Walt Camby, but Camby mysteriously left for Geneva.

During the show, a deliveryman named Kyle Budwell, who lost his life savings due to Lee’s endorsement of IBIS, takes Lee hostage at gunpoint and forces him to wear an explosive vest. Kyle demands answers and threatens to detonate the vest.
